Contaminants are things that you cannot get off by regular washing such as Industrial Fallout, Various Types of Mechanical Fluid from other vehicles, Brake Dust Particles and etc. You can feel them by running your hand over the surface after washing it clean. It will feel a little rough to the touch. A truly contaminant-free paint will feel smooth as glass. In case you need to ask, just run your hand over the mirror in the house to understand what it means by smooth as glass because the glass on your vehicle might need decontamination as well.

Doing this will also remove the old Sealant or Wax that you have applied in the past. This allows the new Sealant or Wax to stick to the paint longer and better as they were formulated.

How To Remove Contaminants Off The Surface:

Before using the Surface Prep Mitt, you need to break it in on glass to remove the protective layer on the rubber of the mitt. It makes sense to de-contaminate the glass first before everything else.

  1. Wash the vehicle thoroughly with Rinseless Solution (diluted with water, of course)
  2. Double the Claying/Decontaminating Dilution Ratio printed on the label of Rinseless Solution to be safe
  3. Work on Glass first if the Surface Prep Mitt is new.
  4. Repeat panel to panel until you are done with the whole vehicle
  5. It is recommended to use a Last Step Protection product after Decontaminating the Surface
